Kettlebell Sport is a power, strength, and endurance sport in which you lift a kettlebell (or two) for a period of 5 or 10 minutes without putting the bell down. It is a mental and physical challenge that comes with high returns. Making it through a 5 or 10-minute set is a balancing act between relaxation and tension. Finding your groove is key. In this way, Kettlebell Sport is referred to as “moving mediation.” It is a cyclical sport much like running or rowing. There are three lifts to master: long cycle (clean and jerk), jerk and snatch.
In our Kettlebell Sport classes, we focus on improving technical proficiency as well as on building up the required endurance, strength and power to complete a 10-minute set. A bit of forearm soreness is normal when beginning a program like this. As the technique becomes smoother and the body adjusts, this discomfort will be greatly reduced.
These classes are structured for individuals who are:
- Interested in improving their technique
- Looking to improve their strength and endurance
- Enjoy a challenge and a clear measure of progress
- Aiming to compete in kettlebell sport
Sport classes are not just for current athletes or those looking to compete. We accommodate all levels of fitness!
There are several local for fun and ranking kettlebell competitions held throughout the year, including the Westshore Open we host every fall.
*ONE MONTH OF HOUSE FIT CLASSES IS RECOMMENDED OR PREVIOUS KETTLEBELL EXPERIENCE BEFORE ATTENDING.
